In Memoriam of Prof. Alex Chantraine

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Prof Alex Chantraine, honorary professor at the University of Geneva, Faculty of Medicine.

He dedicated most of his life to the scientific advancement of PRM discipline, acting as President of the UEMS section for PRM from 1994 to 1998 and afterwards, as President of the European Board of PRM from 1998 to 2000. From 1999 he was the chairman for the certification of training centers / site visits.

We will always remember his kind attitude and his struggle to promote rehabilitation quality in Europe.

Our sincere condolences and all our sympathy go to his family in these moments of mourning and sadness.

Clinical Affairs Committee

The Clinical Affairs Committee of the UEMS PRM Section focusses on Quality of Care in PRM practice.

The Clinical Affairs Committee of the UEMS Section of PRM (CAC) was set up in 2001, at the suggestion of Prof. Veronika Fialka-Moser (Austria). Its mission was to promote quality of care in PRM throughout European countries. Under the chairmanship of Prof. Bengt Sjölund (Sweden), the committee discussed different ways to achieve this ambitious goal. Without external funding, the committee decided to develop an Accreditation process for PRM Programmes of Care based on volunteering by participants and reviewers.

After several trials, the procedure has reached a mature level, step by step. This accreditation is based on a peer-review of a thorough description of a PRM Programme of Care, using a common template, which can be downloaded from this website. This template has proved to be robust and can apply to different clinical situations and is sensitive to the local context. It puts much emphasis on the medical rehabilitation care approach for the patient, from  diagnosis and treatment to comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation. The rehabilitation process has to be described in the structure, goals and in the content of the programme. The organizational aspects include the manpower and equipment required by the programme. This rehabilitation template owes much to the developmental work by our past chairman Dr Georges de Korvin (France)
